The cone of concentration

The power of concentration is like the rays of sun dissipated. When they concentrate, they illumine.
Five senses are one of the best things god gave us. they collect information and feed it to our brain. It's like we see a pothole, sense danger and move a side. Simple. For living a normal life no one can't deny these five great antinaes, namely sense of vision, sense of touch, sense of smell, sense of taste and sense of hearing.
But all our senses point/focus outward. They forever move away in search of frequencies to pick up. They are not much of a help if someone wants to look inside. when we think, we think in a language e.g. Suppose a person wants to leave for some place, he'll begin his plans by silently talking with himself in his mind(In a language). He'll raise questions like should I go or not? will the money last or not? will it rain today or not? etc. and then he'll finally make a decision.

Does a dog ever think and waste time before reacting to his owner's orders? Does a deer ever think in which direction to run, when it smells a leopard? The answer is probably not. That deer may run in the wrong direction and end up in a trap, but again it doesn't rest and think, it again searches a way out. May be they do think, but as they don't have a language, they don't have to wait for a mental sentence to end and another to begin. They directly come to a conclusion, in Deer's case, to flee. Ofcourse the animals do have a language that they use in mating calls and distress calls but they don't have a language for gossip.
May be it has something to do with the fact that most of the animals have a special sense. Some have special vision, some have sharp sense of smell, some can hear minute vibrations, like bats, or some that can feel vibrations on their skin, like snakes. May be because they depend more on one developed sense, they are less distracted by other senses and hence they can act fast.
Humans don't have such a special sense. All the senses are more or less equally capable. When a situation confronts us the information from five senses baffle most of us and the poor soul cannot process all the information at once. And that time is used to think in a language. Waste of time.
This goes on for so long that most loose their capacity to shut up. To shut up means the ability to shutdown all senses, quit thinking and just be quite so that all the mental efforts can be concentrated on a single subject. If such a mental efforts is focused on the tip of an needle, it'll rip that needle apart, but this is not easy. When we close our eyes in meditation we see our loved ones, we see our enemies, we see everything that is in some way connected to us. We may even relive a past memory. It goes on.
To shut it all up is a mean task. Though in our sleep our senses are shutdown but then we are not concentrating. The horses of our imagination take us far way in the land of dreams. Dreams are just a visual projection of some mental process. So we are not relaxing even in our sleep (Though body is). To shut up means to make sure that your body is asleep but you are not. Tricky business. But it has got to be done so as to learn to concentrate.
